Boys Score: Lake - 109; Bremerton - 29
Girls Score: Lake - 114; Bremerton - 36
The Vikings loaded up the long boats once again and invaded Bremerton on Friday and came away with two wins to open the 2000 campaign. In a rainy, cold and windy day Lake competed well and finished with some very impressive opening day marks. The boys team started off fast with Ryan McKinney winning the 110 highs and then followed that with with a win in the 100 meters by Nik Williams. McKinney also won the 300 hurdles and placed 2nd in the Long Jump. Williams also won the 200 and 400. Lake's 4x100 relay was Disqualified for dropping the baton and running out of their lane. Brian Graham was a double winner in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Brant Bosserman was also a double winner.
On the girls side the Vikings were lead by it's veterans in Tanya Pater, Allison Selway and Tiffany Mauer and the youth movement on the girls side served notice. Tanya won the 100 and 200 in impressive fashion and Allison Selway posted the farthest opening day mark of any Triple Jumper in school history. Tiffany Mauer picked up where she left off last season with a double win in the Shot Put and Discus. Alicia Steinruck won both hurdles and freshmen Lori Anderson, Marlis Whitman, Lindsey Barnes and Emily Kuhlman all contributed with solid first time marks.

Meadowdale Dual- Return To Top
Boys Score: Lake - 120 vs. Meadowdale - 21
Girls Score: Lake 94 vs. Meadowdale - 51
The Vikings took to the track at Edmonds stadium and looked to build off of last weeks performances and that's exactly what happened. The Viking boys showed why they are the odds-on favorite to win the league this year and a very young girls team is starting to gel and gear up for next weeks showdown against Stanwood in a quadrangular meet at Lake Stevens.
The boys team showed its might from the start and was lead by the trio of Ryan McKinney, Brian Graham and Nik Williams. Ryan McKinney had a record day in both his hurdle races with a 14.6 and 39.84. The 39.84 in the 300 hurdles is the first time a WESCO 2A/3A athlete has broken 40 seconds. The last was Lake Stevens alum Richie Chambers in 1990. Brian Graham upped his own school record in the Triple Jump with a solid 45'8 1/4" and a season PR in the Long Jump at 21'10". Not to be outdone Nik Williams stepped up and PR'd in both the 100 and 400 running 11.28 and 50.39. Ryan Thomason and Troy Ackerlund PR'd in the Shot put going 49'4" and 48'2" respectively.
For the girls team, they are still in the process of gelling as a team. With only 2 seniors on the team and a bundle of young talent the girls are working hard to defend their WESCO and District Titles. Leading the way against Meadowdale was the usual group of outstanding athletes in Tanya Pater, Allison Selway and Tiffany Mauer. But the younger Vikings are stepping up in Maisie Todd, Emily Kuhlman, Lindsey Barnes and Alicia Steinruck. Tanya continues to run strong in her 100 and 200 and Allison continues to dominate in her specialty the Triple Jump. Tiffany Mauer and freshman Maisie Todd are very strong in the throws with Maisie missing the freshman record in the Discus by a mere 1 foot.

Stanwood, Everett, Monroe Triangular- Return To Top
BOYS SCORE: LAKE-113 2/3; STANWOOD-81 1/3; EVERETT-58; MONROE-10
GIRLS SCORE: LAKE-107; STANWOOD-87; EVERETT-69; MONROE-11
Thursday saw the Vikings hosting their first of many home meets this season against rival Stanwood, Everett and Monroe. While the weather was sunny (for a change) there was a rather stiff head wind during the first half of the meet that seemed to knock down the times of the early sprint races. Even with the head wind the Vikings looked strong in their quest to win league titles and gear up for the big rival meet against Lynnwood next week.
On the boys side it was a chance to build off of a strong week last week and compete against what should prove to be some of the stiffer competition they will see in the league. As always the Vikings were competeing strong and showed why they are gunning for big things. Ryan McKinney continued to improve in the Long Jump with a PR of 22'2 and Brian Graham had a phantom foul that measured out to 23' and Matt Williams showed signs of his old form with a season best of 20'6. Nik Williams looked incredibly strong in his 400 where he finally made the breakthough run with a time of 49.8. Those four individuals also ran off a 3:26.75 all alone with the second place team finishing 9 seconds later. Kevin Hutchinson PR'd in the 300 hurdles at 42.41 and McKinney went 40.0. Sophomore Brad Baughman PR'd in the Javelin at 157'10 and Junior Micah Russum ran an excellent leg on the 4x100 and then ran a strong 400 in a PR 53.94. All in all the Vikings competed very strong.
On the girls side the Vikings competed like warriors and overcame the abscence of 4 top individuals and Tanya Pater recovering from strep throat to come from behind and hold off Stanwood. In her first meet back since a bout with strep, Tanya Pater won the 100 in 13.21 and then ran a strong 26.6 in the 200. But the athlete of the day had to be Allison Selway whos PR in the Long Jump and leading a 1-2-3-5 placing in the triple jump put Lake ahead to stay with only the 4x400 to go. Freshman Marlis Whitman had a strong showing in the triple jump with a PR of 33'2 1/2.

Pasco Invitational- Return To Top
LAKE PLACES 3RD IN THE BOYS AT PASCO!!
In what is by far and away the best ever Pasco for Lake Stevens High School, the Vikings competed like the true champions they are and let the rest of the state know that we are in the hunt. With several key performances the Vikings rolled up the points and took away several overall and "AAA" state leads. The most impressive performance was turned in by Junior Nik Williams who ran a PR in the 400 with a 48.78 and took the fist place plaque home in addition to the overall state lead in the 400. In addtion Nik ran a 48.2 anchor split for the 4x400 which ran a state AAA leading 3:21.22 and placed second.
Senior Brian Graham had a standout day with 3 2nd place plaques of his own. Brian took a PR of 23'2 1/2" in the Long Jump to place second and take over the "AAA" state lead in the Long Jump. In addition he placed second in the Triple Jump at 46'6 1/2 but had a 1" measured foul of 48'5" and 3 47' jumps. Brian also ran the 3rd leg of the 2nd place 4x400 relay.
Junior Ryan McKinney also had a great day not only running a school record of 14.3 in the 110 Highs but placing 4th just .01 out of 3rd and .2 out of 1st after hiting 3 hurdles rather hard. He also ran a PR 39.38 in the 300 hurdles to place 3rd. Both of those times are 3A state leads.
Matt Williams also was a member of the 2nd place 4x400 relay team.
Tanya Pater competed for the lady vikings and placed 4th in the 100 in 12.66 and 10th in the 200 at 26.78.
Amy Kruckeberg placed 9th in the Girls High Jump.
Ryan Thomason placed 9th in the shot put.

Arlington, Jackson, Monroe Triangular- Return To Top
Boys Score: Lake-132, Jackson-72, Arlington-32, Monroe-23
Girls Score: Lake-144, Arlington-65, Jackson-37, Monroe-21
On a beautiful day in the northwest, the Vikings hosted their 2nd quadrangular of the year and again experienced the success that has given them a 76-6 dual meet record combined over the last 7 years. With a few of the Viking standouts not competeing it was a chance for the younger group to step up and show their mettle. In the girls side, freshman Maisie Todd won the shot put in a PR 32'7" and javelin throwers Noelle Bosserman and Alicia Steinruck both had PR days. Sophomore high jumper Amy Kruckeberg, who has been battling a severe case of shin splints upped her PR in high jump as well to 5'1". Freshman Malea Russum upped her own school record in the pole vault to 8'6" and freshman Emily Kuhlman ran a solid PR in the 800 at 2:29.1.
On the boys side, the vikings were without the services of Ryan McKinney who took the day off but still managed to have a solid day. The highlight of the day was the breakout in the shot put by senior Ryan Thomason. Ryan upped his PR in the shot to 51'1" ranking him 5th in the state for "AAA" as of the last Washington Track Weekly list. Junior Matt Williams ran a solid PR in the 200 with a 22.98 clocking and junior javelin thrower Jason Russell had a 13 foot PR to win the Javelin at 164'6". Junior Clint Cooper also had a PR in the high jump at 5'10" with 3 solid attempts at 6'0".

WESCO AAA Championships- Return To Top
LAKE BOYS WIN WESCO, GIRLS FINISH SECOND!
In a meet that saw 9 league meet records broken over the 2 days of competition it was the Viking Boys coming out on top and the girls finishing second on an exceptional effort the 2nd day. With the weather nice and comfortable, the Vikings took full advantage. Early on in the meet there was a fairly strong head wind blowing into the face of the sprints and the girls long jump but as the day progressed it slowly subsided and was little of a factor later in the meet. Lake won the combined meet championship over Stanwood 404-391.5. Next week the Vikings travel to Stanwood to take on the Northwest League at the Northwest District 1 meet. Top three placers in each event qualify for the state meet. Lake qualified all of it's big guns through to the following week on both sides. The boys team is still looking at competing for a top 3 finish at the state meet with hopes of a State Championship but will have to go through defending champ Lakes to do so. The girls team on the strength of strong performances from Tanya Pater, Amy Kruckeberg, Allison Selway and the relays are finding themselves in the familiar position of possibly being able to compete for a trophy at Lincoln Bowl.
The following are the results from the WESCO AAA meet. Top 6 move on to this weeks NW District meet in Stanwood.
