GENERAL INFORMATION

ACADEMIC NON PERFORMANCE

LSHS emphasizes the importance of learning.  Improving academic performance requires effort and cooperation at all levels.  Academic non-performance may include any of the following:

1.       Faliure to demonstrate consistent on-task behavior.

2.       Failure to extent sufficient effort to progress in a subject matter.

3.       Failure to bring needed materials to class each day.

4.       Failure to attend schoolon a regular basis.

Disciplinary action may be taken for student academic non-performance and may include up to long term suspension from school for the current semester.

CAFETERIA

Hot lunches, sandwiches, milk, and a-la-carte selections are available in our cafeteria.  Lunch is provided each day of school on a nonprofit basis.  With all of our students using the cafeteria during the lunch periods, it is mandatory that students properly dispose of all garbage before leaving.  Please clean up after yourself and help keep the cafeteria clean.  Hot lunches are to be eaten in the cafeteria and not in the halls or restrooms.  Listed below are the general regulations related to the cafeteria.  Failure to comply with these regulations will result in short/long term suspension from the cafeteria and/or school.

CAFETERIA REGULATIONS

1.       Report directly to the assigned cafeteria at the beginning of the scheduled lunch period (1st, 2nd or 3rd lunch)

2.       Form lunch lines in single file

COMPUTER/INTERNET ACCESS

Appropriate use of computers/internet protocols must be followed (see signed internet access form).  Violation of these protocols will result in suspension of all computer/internet privileges.

EIGHTEEN YEAR OLD STUDENTS

Eighteen year old students wishing to write their own notes and sign for field trips, etc. must first secure written verification from their parents approving and acknowledging the students' responsibilities in signing for themselves.  Forms for obtaining parent permission are available in the attendance office.  Parental acknowledgment and approval to sign notes does not alleviate the student's responsibility to adhere to all of the rules and attendance policies of the school in order to maintain enrollment and credit.

HALL PASSES

Students will be required to carry an appropriate official hallway pass.  Teacher Assistants must have a TA hall pass also.

1.       Students must have a hall pass to be in the hall or anywhere outside of class. Staff members are instructed to send any student back to their class who does not have a hall pass.

2.       No running or horseplay in the halls.

3.       Respect the rights of teachers and students in classrooms.

4.       Pick up all trash in the hallways before you leave your area.

LOCKERS

Lockers may be issued to any student who does not have outstanding fines. Students may sign up for lockers at the start of school. Each student is responsible for maintaining a clean locker at all times.Students who have difficulties with the locker should check with the main office or a custodian for assistance.  Students are not to exchange lockers, once assigned, without checking with the main office. Students are responsible for any damage, undue wear, or vandalism to their assigned lockers. Lockers are to be cleaned at the end of the year.  Although the school provides hall lockers and PE lockers, the school is not liable for the loss of any items from lockers.  Students are encouraged to purchase a high quality lock. Lockers remain the property of the school district during the time they are loaned to students for the purpose of storing their belongs while attending school. This does not give students the right to exclude school authorities from reasonable access to the locker. Should school authorities have reasonable cause to believe items are concealed in locker which violate school rules or the law, they may inspect belongs contained therein.

To reduce the possibility of theft or loss from your locker:

1.         Always see that the locker is securely closed and locked when you leave it.

2.         Do not leave money or valuables (cameras, watches, etc.) in lockers. A secretary may place items in the school vault during school hours.

3.         Do not tell your locker combination to anyone.

4.         Promptly report thefts, damage, or any problems with your locker.

5.         Keep valuable electronic equipment (Walkman players, games, CD players, etc.) at home.

6.                   Purchase a quality lock.

STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The major goal of the Student Assistance Program is to support and enhance student achievement and well being through the areas of prevention, intervention, and support.  Because adolescents spend so many of their waking hours at school and school-related functions, the school has a unique opportunity to help provide solutions to students who are showing signs of escalating academic or behavior problems.  Student referrals can be done online using the link from the LSHS webpage or using the hard copy referral form in the SAP box at the entrance to the library.

STUDENT DIRECTORIES

Student names will appear in the following directories at the high school: attendance cards, daily attendance forms, data processing scheduling cards, the annual, teacher's grade books, counseling office files, athletic eligibility lists, class lists by grade, athletic programs, drama programs, music concert programs, business office records, honor roll lists, baccalaureate program, commencement program, emergency locator cards, permanent records/files/folders, banquet programs, roster and activity bus lists, athletic rosters, health cards, school insurance lists, and transportation lists for bus routes.

STUDENT FINANCES

The business secretary will handle all monies in the business office. ASB and yearbook purchases will take place before school or during lunch hours only.  If paying by check, make the check to LSHS for the exact amount of purchase.  Checks written over the amount CANNOT be accepted. Change cannot be made at the high school office at any time.  All lunch money transactions are handled directly through the cafeteria.

TELEPHONES

The telephone in the office and classrooms are for school business only.  Students will be called from class to take a call in emergency situations only.  The attendance office counter phone can be used by students for legitimate attendance related school business only.  Cell phones need to be off while in a classroom teaching situation.

VISITOR POLICY

Lake Stevens High School is a closed campus.  No non-students are allowed on campus without administrative approval.  (Refer to School District Policy 1420 posted in high school office)  Visitors are allowed for educational reasons, not social visits.  Students wishing to bring student visitors to the high school must complete the student visitor form and receive approval from the attendance office at least one (1) school day in advance.   Students are allowed one high school age visitor per year.  Students are not to bring guests to school without prior arrangements.  NO STUDENT VISITORS WILL BE PERMITTED NEAR THE END OF A SEMESTER OR DURING ANY TESTING TIME.   All visitors are required to register with the attendance office immediately upon arrival on the campus.  All visitors must be of high school age.

VOTER REGISTRATION

Students, age 18 or older, are eligible to register to vote.  Registration is required before you can exercise the right to vote.  The main office has a supply of voter registration cards that are to be mailed to the county.  The office will be happy to assist you.

ACCIDENTS AND INSURANCE

All students are strongly encouraged to have insurance coverage while at school and/or participating in school related events.  All students participating in interscholastic athletics are required to have insurance prior to their first turnout.  If a student is injured at school or during a school sponsored activity, he/she must make a report of the accident to the office.  Accident insurance to cover all school activities may be purchased through the school.  There is some variation in the cost of insurance depending on the sports involved.  Students are urged to take advantage of this insurance unless the family has insurance at home which will cover them.
