Training for Microsoft certification is given in all
Computer Applications classes. Microsoft offers certificates in the
following programs:

Excel PowerPoint
Closest testing centers are in Lynnwood or Kirkland.

Cisco CCNA certification testing is available after
completion of all four semesters of Cisco Networking.
Students will be encouraged to take the A+ Certification
testing at the conclusion of the Networking Essentials class.

PowerPoint.

Highly recommended for improved skill in using the more advanced features
of Microsoft Office. Word features include multi-column documents,
tables, mail merge, graphics and drawing. Excel features include advanced
formulas and the presentation of data in graphic form. Students will
create their own web page using Note Pad to develop basic HTML skills.
Create personal business cards, and stationery.

Use your computer with ease and confidence as you work with up-to-date
equipment and software. Students are given practice tests for Microsoft
Certification in Word and Excel.. The Access relational database program,
widely used in business, is presented in this class. MS Word features
covered include the use of sections to build documents, creating styles
and macros, using the outline and table of contents feature, bookmarks
and hyperlinks. Students will work on projects that integrate the
Internet, Word, and Access. Scanners and digital cameras are available.

Students wanting Microsoft Office Certification will fine-tune their
skills in Word, Excel, Access, and Publisher. Students will customize
their computer by using Visual Basics and creating macros, thus taking
a step toward computer programming. An up-to-date version of Microsoft
Office will be used to process and present information. Emphasis will
be on using the computer to solve problems and to present information
in a clear and professional format.

Want to learn and create digital images? Want to learn how to create
visual web pages that involve more than text? Using Adobe Photoshop,
Macromedia, Studio MX, and Image Ready, create high graphic images
and animated files that can be displayed in HTML documents. Create
HTML pages displaying production from all programs. Use of notepad
and various web editors will be utilized to create HTML documents
for viewing in Internet Explorer.

This course is a continuation of Digital Design 1-2. It will continue to build on the Adobe PhotoShop and Macromedia Studio applications/techniques that were acquired during that course. Introduction to using Flash MX 2004 as a tool for basic game programing will be covered, along with instruction for creating action scripts for webpages. This course is designed to prepare individuals to apply HTML, XML, JavaScript/Java, graphics applications and other authoring tools to the design, editing and publishing of documents, images, graphics, sound and multimedia products on the World Wide Web.

BUS 180 Computer Repair

This course will provide training for students interested in becoming
computer technicians. In a lab environment, students will learn the
process of effectively using diagnostic tools to identify and repair
computer malfunctions and troubleshoot hardware. They will also learn
the loading and configuring of operating systems and software applications.
Students need to take Networking Essentials second semester to be
fully trained for the A+ Certification exam.

Study the basic elements of Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area
Networks (WAN). Topics will include hardware, media (wire), and network
properties for operating systems, network protocols, and networking
advancements. Will need to be familiar with Windows OS. Creation of
own media (wire) will be practiced for basic LAN/WAN setup. Design
of lab topologies will be studied.
(Students who finish both BUS 180 & 181 will be encouraged to
take the A+ Certification exam.)

Do you want to find out the keys to financial wealth? As a young adult,
you will be on your own in just a year or two and will have to make
many financial decisions that could have long-tern affects on your
financial security. This class will help you become better equipped
at taking control of your financial future and will give you a heads-up
on a variety of financial topics. This class includes a study of investments,
taxes, insurance, buying a car, buying a house, banking, budgeting,
using credit, how to accumulate wealth, and other everyday financial
matters. Class activities include interesting discussions, though
provoking videos, a simulated stock market competition, and using
the internet for up-to-date research and financial news.

Know your rights! Learn how law in the United States developed and
how it applies in your daily life. Learn about crimes, courts, and
the legal rights of the accused, marriage and divorce laws and much
more.
You will have the opportunity to play the part of a lawyer, judge,
bailiff or one of many other possible parts in Mock Trials. You will
also be able to listen to speakers representing the police, prosecuting
attorney, public defenders office, and other organizations directly
involved with the law. Tour the Snohomish County Jail and watch the
Washington State Superior Court in action.

This course is intended to give students a complete understanding
of microcomputer and network architecture and concepts. Students become
familiar and competent with specific hardware specifications for microprocessors
and with how to apply basic troubleshooting techniques. Along with
studying the infrastructure of the microprocessor, student will develop
a solid base of networking fundamentals. Microsoft NT workstation
and server will be used as the operating system during this course.
Students will learn basic administration feature of each program.
An understanding of LAN and WAN will also be illustrated throughout
this course.

preparing for course certification completion at the end of semester

a stock-market game, starting a student company, and labor negotiations.

This course is reserved for the students who have been selected to
perform management responsibilities in the DECA Company. The Viking

retail establishments managed by the DECA Company. The students make
decisions regarding pricing, inventory, sales, promotion, and management.
All areas of retail marketing are applied. Participation in DECA (An
Association of Marketing Students) is a major part of the curriculum.

Earn credit for working at your part-time job. You must be enrolled
in one of the marketing classes to participate. Marketing Work Experience
does not meet on a daily basis and may be registered for 1st, 6th,
or 7th period. Credit is earned for each semester the student works
the minimum required hours and performs satisfactorily on the job.

Diversified Occupations
DOE 221 Diversified Occupations
Grade: 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: None
DO is a cooperative work experience program covering occupations for
which specific vocational technical training is not available in the
school setting. Students will meet for one period of class per day,
in addition to their paid Occupational experience. Typically, students
are already employed when they come into the course; however, some
do seek employment after enrolling.
Students must be over 16 years of age in order to be
involved in cooperative education. Teachers, employers and parents
work together to ensure that the participants learn and perform job
tasks in accordance with their mutual expectations. Classroom activities
connect relevant academic learning with on-the-job learning. Examples
of classroom learning are: resume writing, personal finance, labor
laws, interview skills, work ethics and attitudes, self-esteem issues,
career exploration, etc.
