Senior Calendar


Important - Make copies of all materials you submit to colleges, trade schools, and/or financial aid agencies!


September/October:

  1. Meet with your counselor to review your graduation status (you should have received a copy of your grad status with your June report card) and to discuss future plans. Clarify your educational goals, needs, and preferences.
  2. Develop a preliminary list of colleges and/or trade schools utilizing the guidance staff and Career Center.
  3. Write for catalogs, applications, financial aid information, etc. from schools on your preliminary list.
  4. Register for the SAT I, ACT, SAT II, etc. as appropriate for the admissions requirements of institutions under consideration. Registration deadlines for most tests are announced in the daily bulletin and/or posted in the Career Center.
  5. Get your name on the list in the Career Center to meet with admissions representatives from various colleges and universities who come to LSHS during the first few months of school.
  6. Check the Scholarship List on a regular basis. It is posted in many classrooms, in the Career Center, and on this website. (Link)
  7. Reduce your preliminary list of schools to 5 or less if possible.
  8. Talk with your counselor about the processing of college applications.
  9. Make a determination as to who will you ask to write recommendations for you. Utilize the "Worksheet for Scholarship Applications and Letters of Recommendation" which is available in the Career Center.
  10. Check Early Decision dates if applicable to your plans for college.
  11. Begin filling out applications.


November:

  1. Begin filling out college or trade/vocational school applications if you have not done so.
  2. Obtain a free copy of "Meeting College Costs" in the Guidance Center and read it carefully. This document helps explain the financial aid process.
  3. Turn in all Secondary School Reports for applications to your counselor as early as possible. Your counselor needs time to work on these forms in order to meet the deadlines established.
  4. Attend the National College Fair in Seattle.


December/January:

  1. Attend the Financial Aid/Scholarship evening with your parents.
  2. Obtain the FAFSA, have your parents complete the form, and submit it to the processor as soon after January 1 as possible.
  3. Complete any remaining applications.
  4. Listen to and/or read the bulletin. Watch the scholarship list for opportunities.
  5. Complete college housing application forms as appropriate.


February/March/April:

    1. Discuss your final choices with your counselor and your parents.
    2. Notify the institutions of your decisions to accept or reject their offers.
    3. Complete any additional financial aid or housing forms required.
    4. Review financial aid award offers from schools. The question is not how much will you get but how much of your need the award will cover.
    5. Respond promptly to all requests from the school you have decided to attend.
    6. Submit requests for the mailing of final transcripts to the Registrar.
    7. Don't slack off academically, colleges will examine your final semester grades and make a final determination as to your admissibility.
